Breaking Ground: Edmonton Cohort 3 & Calgary Cohort 1 Launches with Thrilling Energy
The excitement was contagious as the REET Institute's third cohort in Edmonton & first cohort in Calgary had their first workshop, marking the beginning of our electrifying eight-week workshop series. From humble beginnings with 8 scholars just in Edmonton to a bustling cohort of 32 combined, the growth has been undeniably inspiring.
Amidst cheers & camaraderie, scholars dove into their teams, immersing themselves in the world of commercial real estate. Workshop 1 set the stage for collaboration & learning, as scholars familiarized themselves with the industry's basics & started to home their skills for the upcoming challenges.
We had two incredible facilitators kick things off for us.
In Edmonton, we had Martin Lee.
Martin Lee, Canadian Urban
Martin has over 12-years of real estate investment management experience working with multi-sectored institutional real estate portfolios. In his current role at Canadian Urban Limited, Martin is responsible for overseeing the financial analysis team which provides analytical support to both the Investments and Asset Management departments. Throughout his career, Martin’s focus has been on the underwriting and recommendation of new acquisitions across Canada and the U.S., as well as the strategic management of a global real estate portfolio. Martin received his Bachelor of Commerce with a double major in Real Estate and Marketing from the University of British Columbia.
In Calgary, we had Lorena Jonsson.
Lorena Jonsson, Cushman & Wakefield
Lorena Jonsson is a Senior Consultant withCushman & Wakefield’s Valuation & Advisory team and has been with Cushman & Wakefield since 2018. In her role, Lorena is responsible for the completion of a wide variety of commercial real estate valuation assignments across Western Canada. Working alongside Stephanie Bird, one of Calgary’s leading appraisers, Lorena’s experience in valuation includes a multitude of asset classes including multi-family, land, industrial, office and retail. Lorena has completed appraisals for a diverse array of local, national and regional clients providing a wide range of services in single and multi-tenant asset valuations, IFRS valuations, feasibility studies, demand studies and market rent analysis.
Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield, Lorena worked with an international brokerage firm in the role of Research Analyst. In her role, Lorena was responsible for statistical analysis and market research of the office, industrial and retail markets in Calgary. Lorena completed her Bachelor of Commerce degree at Dalhousie University and is an AIC Candidate with the Appraisal Institute of Canada. She is actively involved in the Commercial Real Estate industry and is a member of CREW Calgary. Her past responsibilities with CREW included holding the position of marketing co-chair which involved an active participation of marketing initiatives within the organization.
Both facilitators did an amazing job, encouraging scholars and getting them excited for the journey ahead.
With the promise of the coveted $10,000 scholarship from the Pitch Competition presented byAltus Group, excitement soared as scholars started this transformative journey, ready to make their mark in the world of commercial real estate.
